Dr. Gene Maples is the veterinarian and owner of South End Veterinary Clinic. He spent his childhood in eastern Tennessee and rural Minnesota. For as long as he can remember he wanted to be a veterinarian, beginning his work with animals at the age of 17. He received his undergraduate degrees in Biology from UNC Greensboro, and Animal Science from NC State. He continued his studies getting his Doctorate from the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State in 2001. After graduating he came to Charlotte, NC working at an animal hospital for 12 years until he purchased South End Veterinary Clinic in 2012. Dr. Maples is passionate about his patients and the people that care for them. He enjoys chatting with clients about their pets as this allows him to customize their treatment plans accordingly.
When he isn’t at the office you can generally find him at home with his two daughters and his wife, whom he married right before vet school. He enjoys doing yard work, going for bike rides with his family, hanging out at the lake, or just watching movies at home. His furry family consists of Reesie Buttercup, an American Staffordshire mix (she has the DNA test to prove it), and the hospital cat Willow, who favors him the most!
